The Griffon

"Gryphem" is Latin.  It means "The Griffon," a creature with the body of a lion and the head of an eagle.

This blog will present my thoughts on subjects ranging from society and politics to personal relationships to metaphysical reality.  The only criteria for postings are that they must be reasonable and interesting... to me, at least.

  1. I very much like Griffins, and can see the appeal of using one as your avatar (for lack of a better word,) but I'm curious as to why you chose it?

Was it the recent rise in popularity from the Harry Potter books? The historical representation of the Catholic churches stance on remarriage? The symbol of bravery and courage? Saab fan? Or did it simply "look cool"

  2. Why Gryphem? Well...
I like the symbology - a mythological creature which is both highly intelligent and courageous, of pagan origin and yet a christological symbol reminiscent of the enlightenment. I also like the similarity to the Greek for "write," which is "grapho." The first three letters also feel very familiar to me. All in all, it seems like "Gryphem" is perfect for this purpose.
